Mourning at Maddux Cemetery

Ranger Dani leads an after-hours, lantern-guided tour of historic Maddux Cemetery at Harrison Bay State Park on Friday, October 30. The park lists tours at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m., each about an hour, and says the 6 p.m. tour begins as the sky gets dark.

The park describes the tour as sharing stories of people buried there and looking at how traditions around death and mourning changed during the 19th and early 20th centuries. It lists the fee as $15.00.

The park says the cemetery is at the end of the road at Bear Trace Golf Course, reached by a small unpaved road, and the tour starts at its gates. It notes the tour is not wheelchair accessible and says two all-terrain wheelchairs can be reserved free of charge. See the Tennessee State Parks event page for registration.
