Southern Star serves Southern home cooking from its downtown spot on Broad Street, with a second location on Signal Mountain. According to its website, the business started serving blue plates in a small Southside restaurant more than twenty years ago and still uses the same recipes. Lunch centers on a hot blue plate, and the downtown location has a self-serve hot bar. Freshly made salads, sandwiches, soup and a deli case round things out, along with made-from-scratch desserts. According to the site, staff will hold takeaway case items if you call ahead, and catering is available on request.
